The city of St. Cloud is known as "the Soldier City" because it was founded by Civil War soldiers following the war. St. Cloud is smaller than its sister city of Kissimmee and has 25,862 residents within its limits. The city also has a historic residential and business core with many homes dating to the 1920s and 1930s. The citys historic core is easily identifiable as the streets are names after U.S. states. Similar to Kissimmee, the St. Cloud Main Street Program is working towards the revitalization of homes and businesses in the historic core.
