Osceola County, Florida - State funding will pave the way for work on a long-planned Business Airpark at Kissimmee Gateway Airport after the legislature's $2 million allocation survived Gov. Rick Scott's veto pen last month. The cash will be used for work on infrastructure - such as access roads, utilities, and site improvements on the park, located in the Kissimmee/Osceola County Enterprise Zone. The work will create temporary construction jobs as well as new permanent jobs when the project is complete.
"This is an exciting opportunity," said County Commissioner Chairman Brandon Arrington, whose district includes the airport. "Osceola County was fortunate that this project survived the Governor's red pen. It will enhance the portfolio of industrial property that we can market to companies and it will ultimately lead to the creation of high-paying jobs for Osceola County residents."
Total project cost is an estimated at $3.2 million.
"We've had this project designed since 2001," said Terry Lloyd, the city's Director of Aviation. "We see a lot of opportunity for small- and medium-sized aviation businesses looking for a 10,000 square foot hangar and a 2,500-square-foot office."
